Beschreibung
des Entwurfs-programmes

scarcity and opportunity Scarcity. Scarcity as a chance. As an opportunity. Four existing buildings. To be revised. To be rethought. To be transformed. But not as such. Taking in account a certain scarcity. Only 33% can be changed. Due to scarcity. Thanks to scarcity. The existing cannot be transformed in its whole. But only like a third. Belgium and Ghent Four buildings in Ghent. City of the province of East-Flanders. Belgium. Four buildings. Each a sign of a certain time. All ready for the change. A change not only as such but also as a change for their context. practice and pleasure Three students each team. Three students resemble a small practice. The small practice will work together on one building. Next to that each student will work on another building. Group work and individual work. But both times pleasure. And like in a practice. The one will help the other. 33% The change however will never be more than one third. What one third could really mean will be debated. Only a third. But what a change. The exercise for the group work. The key word here is intervention. 3.3%. Even a smaller change might be faced. Only the smallest change ever possible. But change. Almost only a detail. But with more effect than anything else. The exercise for the individual work. The key word here is interference.

movement and strategy The exercise will be organised in three movements. The first movement will be the observation of the context. A visit on site is part. The observation will not only envision the context but also the first strategy will be imagined. The second movement will imagine that strategy more thoroughly and deliver the 33% intervention at the end. The third movement will deliver the 3.3% project at the end. The small practice is well organised. 1/3 The 3.3 % project will be studied on a 1/3 model. Not only a model. Of course drawings go along. The idea of the detail of material is key to the idea of the smallest interference possible. To obtain the largest effect of change. 1/333 The 33% project will be studied on a 1/333 model. And for sure some more models. And drawings and more drawings. The idea of the strategies is the topic of this idea of intervention. To understand that changing something as a whole maybe does not need a complete change as such. intervention and interference Three different interests are combined. The idea of intervention and interference. The idea of strategy and the idea of material. And also, the idea of model and drawing. The model as an instrument and the analogue drawing as a method.
