Beschreibung
des Entwurfs-programmes 

The studio will focus on a specific site in São Paulo, where the largest wholesale market in Latin America is located: CEAGESP - Companhia de Entrepostos e Armazéns Gerais de São Paulo. Nowadays 50.000 people circulate around the clock through its warehouses as 250 tons of goods are distributed to the entire country daily. It is a city within a city. The main pavilion, a robust 425 meters-long concrete structure designed in the 1960s by engineers, is where the core of activities happens. Like many industrial quarters in São Paulo, the site is in the immediate vicinity of a river along which railroads and expressways are concentrated. Both floods and traffic congestion are constant issues. Following the city's new master plan, the market will be transferred to the periphery of São Paulo in the next five years. This poses a crucial question: what's next? The goal is to redefine this large urban fragment in regard to its immediate context and to the rest of the city. With prime São Paulo architecture as reference, the studio will engage in the city's complexity, reflecting on how to generate meaningful collective spaces that promote social activities and public appropriation. While the subject undeniably relates to the urban scale, the studio work will largely focus on the architectural scale. Since the studio will run in parallel with the Schindler International Student Competition 2016, questions on how to develop an architectural competition will also be discussed. The seminar week is not obligatory but highly recommended. Integrated Discipline - Construction in cooperation with Professur Philip Block.

Entwickeln verschiedener Analyse- und Notationstechniken zum Verständnis kulturell und ideologisch überformter architektonischer Landschaften; theoretische Auseinandersetzung mit sozialen und architektonischen Utopien in Sao Paulo; Entwickeln eines Inventars der utopischen Visionen und baulichen Typologien; kritische Bewertung des Erarbeiteten Instrumentariums; Entwerfen zeitgenössisch relevanter Architekturen auf der Grundlage der Auseinandersetzung mit dem brasilianischen Kontext;
