Beschreibung des Entwurfs-programmes |
The same way a tree provides a habitat for thousands of species, architecture should become a framework supporting a network of pluralities. Circular thinking should trigger a paradigm shift in architectural planning. Circularity should not only be applied to the responsible use of materials, but also in the act of housing as a whole.
Our aim is to emphasize the fundamental role played by water, to seek for balance between energy production and consumption of resources, to enhance biodiversity and to craft innovative ways of inhabiting spaces.
Water, being a precious and finite natural resource, crucial for all living beings demands careful consideration and should not be taken for granted. At a daily water usage of approximately 190 liters per person (UN data), a mere 3% is allocated for drinking. The majority undergoes processing through sewage systems, treatment, and subsequent reuse. We can do better.
How can we use water with more sensibility and efficiency?
With these considerations in mind, we will explore the potential of existing structures and related spaces in Biel with a specific emphasis on housing. Through strategic interventions, we aim to establish cycles within these structures, transforming them into new living environments, fostering new synergies with the biodiversity of the site.
To better understand the existing context, we will engage in walks, using photography and on-site drawings to document our discoveries. In the studio, we will work with drawings, models, and model photographs to communicate our ideas. Finally, synthesis drawings will serve to summarize the concepts of the projects and convey their stories. The work will be carried out in groups to encourage a collaborative process. |

Lernziele |
Critical thinking, personal attitude
•demonstrate, through design work, a critical understanding of climate change and the ethical responsibilities of the architect
•reflect on pieces of work in progress or already completed both individually and in conversation with peers and faculty
•demonstrate, through design work, a growing knowledge of contemporary and historical architectural dis- course
•critically interpret requirements and working priorities in relation to your personal capabilities
Construction of a narrative, working methodology
•conduct qualitative site analysis through photography and observational drawing
•use archives to conduct systematic analysis into social history, uses, materials, etc.
•assimilate small, fragmentary observations into broad understanding of the place
•clearly and effectively convey your ideas through oral presentations
Conversion of concept into an architectural project
•develop a constructional, structural and environmental concept for the project
•formulate a spatial concept for a project whilst understanding the conceptual, spatial and programmatic conditions
•design with reference to historical, political, cultural and other creative and technical fields
•incorporate information and inspiration from input lectures
Representation
•develop a critical eye with photography of place
•develop model making skills of small conceptual models, as well as working models made of everyday household materials with precise conceptual purpose
•demonstrate high technical and critical proficiency in 2D and 3D CAD drafting and modelling
•develop your skills in image making, composition and collage
•develop an understanding of different media of representation and know when to use them
