Accreditation for Master Thesis D-ARCH

Master studies

Admitted to the Master's thesis is who

1. has successfully completed the Bachelor studies with the diploma
2. has fully met all requirements for admission to the Master's thesis
3. has fulfilled all necessary work (credits) in the category "Architectural Design" according to Art. 39 of the regulation

According to the degree program the master thesis has to be done in the 4th semester and will be accompanied by a chair. The students have to make an application at a chair. The following steps are thereto necessary:

1. internal registration to the master thesis (see below)
2. assignment of the lecture master thesis on www.mystudies.ethz.ch

The students will communicate on the occasion of the internal assignment at which chair/lectureship they have done the design semester. This information is used for the recording of all the students that would like to make their master thesis in the upcoming semester. The students cannot claim the supervision of a specific chair.

Portfolio requirements

The portfolio consists of two parts, an independent (A.) and a specified (B.) part as well as a letter of motivation for each selection (C.).

A. Independent part:

Study project(s), e. g. Architecture and Art, internships or other projects suitable to represent the students profile.

1. Cover sheet, containing:
• Name, surname and student ID-card number (Matrikelnummer)
2. Individual presentation of the project(s)
3. Format and size:
• Format indiviual
• Single PDF-file prefered, if required use ZIP to combine multiple files, max. 100 MB

B. Design projects during studies:

Complete presentation of three design projects from the ETH Bachleor- or Master-programme or another school/university.

1. One cover sheet per project, containing:
• Name, surname and student ID-card number (Matrikelnummer)
• Designation of the project
• Specification of the semester during which the project was done (e. g. FS 2016)
• Specification of the chair/guest lecturer who guided the project
• Specification whether it was a group- or single work
2. Scaled down version from A0 to A3 of each document which was part of the final critique.
• No new layout is needed for these documents but they must be added the document in the right sequence
• Photos of models can/should be added as well
3. Format:
• DIN A3, landscape format
• Single PDF-file prefered, if required use ZIP to combine multiple files, max. 100 MB

C. Letter of motivation:

One letter of motivation for each selection.

1. Format:
• DIN A4, portrait format
• Single PDF-file, max. 10 MB
